General Petrol provides VIS – Vehicle Identification System solutions in cooperation with HID Global for corporate and industrial fuel automation projects.
Within this scope, the HID Global identiFUEL™ product family is supplied by General Petrol and integrated into fuel management systems.

VIS solutions enable vehicles to be identified automatically, contactlessly, and securely at fueling points, preventing unauthorized fueling and incorrect fuel dispensing. The system represents one of the most critical control and security layers of Fuel Management System (FMS) infrastructures.

What Is the Vehicle Identification System (VIS)?

The Vehicle Identification System (VIS) is an identification and authorization system that manages the fueling processes of fleet vehicles or authorized assets without the need for human intervention.

With VIS:

  • The vehicle is automatically identified before fueling

  • Unauthorized vehicles are prevented from refueling

  • Vehicle–fuel type matching is checked automatically

  • Incorrect fuel dispensing is physically prevented

  • All fueling transactions are recorded by the system

The system is suitable for on-site fueling stations, private fleets, public institutions, and industrial facilities.

VIS System Architecture

The Vehicle Identification System consists of the following main components working in an integrated structure:

  • identiFUEL™ Vehicle Tags

  • identiFUEL™ RFID-Enabled Fuel Nozzles (Nozzle Units)

  • identiFUEL™ Wireless Controller (IWC)

  • Fuel Management System (FMS) integration

This architecture enables a fully digital and controlled fueling process.

identiFUEL™ Vehicle Tags

identiFUEL™ Vehicle Tags are passive LF RFID tags (125 kHz) that uniquely identify vehicles at fueling points.

The tags are mounted close to the vehicle’s fuel inlet and are automatically detected by the RFID reader during fueling.

Key functions provided:

  • Vehicle identity verification

  • Control of vehicle-specific fuel type

  • Prevention of unauthorized vehicle fueling

For tamper-protected models, if the tag is removed or manipulated, the tag permanently disables itself, preventing reuse on another vehicle.

identiFUEL™ RFID-Enabled Fuel Nozzles (Nozzle Units)

identiFUEL™ Nozzle Units are intrinsically safe (ATEX / IECEx compliant) RFID readers mounted directly onto fueling nozzles.

These units:

  • Automatically detect the vehicle tag

  • Transmit encrypted data wirelessly to the Wireless Controller

  • Do not allow fuel flow without FMS authorization

  • Automatically stop fueling when the nozzle is removed

With motion-sensor activation, the units ensure energy efficiency and reliable operation in harsh field environments.

identiFUEL™ Wireless Controller (IWC)

The Wireless Controller is the central control component that receives data from Nozzle Units or Vehicle Units and communicates with the Fuel Management System (FMS).

Supported interfaces include:

  • Ethernet

  • RS-232 / RS-485

  • USB

  • Wiegand

This enables seamless integration with existing automation infrastructures or third-party systems.
Based on the FMS decision, the Wireless Controller triggers the fuel pump or associated control relays.

VIS Operating Principle

  1. The vehicle arrives at the fueling point

  2. The fueling nozzle automatically reads the vehicle tag

  3. The data is transmitted to the Wireless Controller

  4. The Wireless Controller forwards the data to the FMS

  5. The FMS evaluates authorization rules

  6. If approved, fueling starts

  7. When the nozzle is removed, fueling stops automatically and the transaction is logged

The entire process operates without operator intervention.
